Hiatus

Thank goodness for best friends.

I'm going to be taking a little break from the blogging world.
Sometimes you've gotta take a little time to rebuild and recover.
Going to spend some quality time with the ones I adore.
Maybe a roadtrip, and definitely lots of pretty projects.

Until we meet again. :)

Swoon

Lissy Elle's work is to DIE for.
It's so dreamy.

Miss E from The Black Apple has created lockets! Eeeeee

And this tray from Anthropologie explains it pretty well.
Sort of from the same vein as "Duet" by Rachael Yamagata.
It's got an extra special corner in my heart.

I pinky promise I'll be back this week with an interior inspirations post.
I've been a little distracted for a while.
Back to business, people! :)

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Holy moley it's been a while since I've blogged!
I think I probably deserve the shittiest blogger award
for these past couple months ha.
Here are my 5 favorite things that are happening in my life right now:

1.) New ink.

He's been healing for a good two weeks now, and I'm happy to say that we are finally in the "not so gross" stage. This baby took 3 hours and I definitely needed a post-tattoo margarita afterwards. I'm pleased with it though. Jamison from Hearts of Fire was the artist. He has also done my feather and my script. :)

I really can't imagine why people go anywhere else in Springfield. Scary.

2.) I'm a Godmother!! :)

Meet Owen Michael. :) He's so magical. His mum asked me on Mother's Day, and I totally cried. Being a Godparent is such an honor, because it sort of makes you family for life.

3.) I attended the most beautiful wedding. My childhood best friend married the love of her life on Saturday. They've been dating since the 6th grade. It was a real-life fairy tale.

Isn't her dress gorgeous? :)

4.) I'm a kitty Mama. :)

Her name is Jezebel, after the song by Iron & Wine. Belle for short. I had to baby-proof my room/studio. She's a tad crazy, this one. But I love her lots.

5.) My insane summer schedule.

This summer I am going to: plan a badass bridal shower and bachelorette party, (Maid of Honor duties are an everyday sort of thing. It's crazy), start P90x and hope I live to tell the tale, do a summer art journal (it's been several seasons since I've done one, and I really miss it), babysit my favorite little ones, and hopefully make several trips to Bull Creek, for nostalgia's sake.
Next summer I'm planning to finally go to Taos and Santa Fe. It's been a long time comin'.

What are your summer plans? :)

I've Loved You So Long

Perhaps my oldest girl crush.
I'd go gay for Fiona Apple in a heartbeat. Ha.

"Criminal" was sort of my personal theme song for like two years.

Kindness

Last night at meditation, my teacher read something to us that cut me to the core. Our dharma talks are always insightful, but this one made so much sense, and fit so well with everything that I've been sorting through in the past year. It made me cry. So I thought I'd share.

Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.

What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
How you ride and ride
thinking the bus will never stop,
the passengers eating maize and chicken
will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness,
you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho
lies dead by the side of the road.
You must see how this could be you,
how he too was someone
who journeyed through the night with plans
and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
You must wake up with sorrow.

You must speak to it till your voice
catches the thread of all sorrows
and you see the size of the cloth.

Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,
only kindness that ties your shoes
and sends you out into the day to mail letters and purchase bread,

only kindness that raises its head
from the crowd of the world to say
it is I you have been looking for,
and then goes with you every where
like a shadow or a friend.
