Kindness

Last night at meditation, my teacher read something to us that cut me to the core. Our dharma talks are always insightful, but this one made so much sense, and fit so well with everything that I've been sorting through in the past year. It made me cry. So I thought I'd share.

Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.

What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
How you ride and ride
thinking the bus will never stop,
the passengers eating maize and chicken
will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness,
you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho
lies dead by the side of the road.
You must see how this could be you,
how he too was someone
who journeyed through the night with plans
and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
You must wake up with sorrow.

You must speak to it till your voice
catches the thread of all sorrows
and you see the size of the cloth.

Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,
only kindness that ties your shoes
and sends you out into the day to mail letters and purchase bread,

only kindness that raises its head
from the crowd of the world to say
it is I you have been looking for,
and then goes with you every where
like a shadow or a friend.

Unrelated Thoughts

Blogging ADD. Ha.

I'm in a wedding in September, and I think I want to do my hair like this:

Less practical, and quite impossible, but I do adore this girl's locks.

I've decided that I want my someday wedding reception to be held in an outdoor blanket fort. :)
(Don't laugh at me. Ha. It's my dream!)

My favorite color in the world: (I will honest to God buy anything in this color, even if I don't need or want it.)

Hope your week is pretty and inspired. xx

An Amazing Find

Every once in a great while, I find something on Etsy that is insanely perfect. I have been on the lookout for a vintage Eames rocker for at least a year now, and I FINALLY found a shop that sells them. And they are BEAUTIFUL.
This one's mine:

But these are equally lovely.

HERE

For a few years now I've been slowly collecting vintage pieces for my post-college residence. It's a pretty rad collection. I find that when I'm buying/designing for ME, it's quite different than when I design for a client. I love it though. I'm not a huge fan of "new" kitchenware, nor am I a huge fan of department stores, BUT, the other day when I was in Sear's I fell deeply in love with this:

Yes, folks. That IS a lavender can opener.
And then there's this, of course..
